Free Range Eggs
Happy Hens

At Little Mountain Farm, we believe that happy hens
lay better eggs.  That's why our hens are given room
to roam and forage.  It's what chickens were designed
to do.

When a hen derives a significant part of her diet from
forage, her eggs will show it.  The whites will be
thick,
and the yolks will be bright yellow.

Commercial laying hens are fed a
single feed for their
entire lives
, and never allowed the natural diet that a
scratching, clucking free range chicken enjoys.
 No
wonder the
ir eggs are so bland!

How Fresh is Your Egg?

Here's a test - boil it.  How easy is it to peel?  Chances
are, the peels slips right off.  That's good
, right?
Wrong.
....

The fresher an egg, the harder it is to peel.  When an
egg ages, the albumin shrinks, and the amount of air
in the egg shell increases.  An egg that peels easy is
usually  weeks old.  A commercial egg is considered
"fresh" as long as it's less than 45 days old!  Most of
our eggs are consumed in days, not weeks.
Egg Prices:  $2.00 per Dozen

At this time, all of our eggs are
being sold at the Yadkin Valley
General Store in Elkin, NC.  As
production increases, farm sales
will resume (assuming our boys
don't eat them all!)
